Bury My Heart 2019

During my last year at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design I decided to dedicate my final piece to all things I love, portraiture, ceramics, music and a slight morbidness.
Bury My Heartwas inspired by the 12th and 13th centuries European royals, who once had their actual hearts cut from their corpses to be placed in areas of importance to them.

I wanted to imagine what a heart burial may look like in the modern day. Using musicians who have distinct styles in both genres and looks, I created a series of ceramic hearts that portrays who they were. The final piece became a shrine, where the hearts would be displayed for public viewing, and fans could mourn the loss of someone they never knew, yet truly felt a bond.
